Day 1: Kigali → Nyungwe National Park
Your 3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trek & Canopy Walkway Adventure begins at 7:00 AM with a convenient pick-up from Kigali by your professional Rwanda Treasure Tours guide, followed by a scenic journey through Rwanda’s beautiful southern province towards Nyungwe National Park. Along the way, you may enjoy optional cultural visits to the Royal Palace Museum in Nyanza, where you can discover Rwanda’s royal heritage, or the Ethnographic Museum in Huye (Butare), which offers fascinating insights into the country’s history and traditions.
After a relaxing lunch in Huye or along the route, continue towards Nyungwe through spectacular landscapes of rolling green hills, extensive tea plantations, traditional rural villages and mist-covered mountains, with opportunities to appreciate the beauty of Rwanda’s countryside and capture memorable photographs. Arrive at Nyungwe National Park at approximately 5:30 PM and check in at your comfortable forest-area lodge, where you can unwind and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of one of Africa’s remarkable rainforest destinations.
In the evening, enjoy dinner and relaxation surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature, preparing for the exciting chimpanzee trekking and canopy walkway experiences ahead. Overnight: Nyungwe Forest Area.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience
Wake up early at 5:00 AM for breakfast before transferring to Nyungwe National Park headquarters for your 3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trek & Canopy Walkway Adventure. At approximately 5:30 AM, meet the park guides and trackers for a detailed briefing covering chimpanzee group allocation, forest trekking guidelines and safety instructions. At 6:00 AM, begin your exciting chimpanzee trekking experience through the dense tropical rainforest, following experienced trackers as you search for chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Along the forest trails, enjoy the sounds of birds, discover the rich biodiversity of Nyungwe and observe the fascinating movements and social behaviours of these remarkable primates.
Once the chimpanzees are located, spend one magical hour observing them from a respectful and safe distance as they feed, groom, interact with their family groups and move through the forest canopy. After the trek, return to the starting point at approximately 10:30 AM and receive your chimpanzee trekking certificate before heading back to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, at around 2:30 PM, experience another highlight of your Nyungwe safari with an unforgettable Canopy Walkway Adventure, crossing the spectacular suspended bridge approximately 70 metres above the forest floor.
Enjoy breathtaking views across the rainforest canopy, look out for colourful birdlife and capture memorable photographs of this extraordinary natural environment. Return to your lodge at approximately 5:00 PM for a relaxing evening, with time to unwind or enjoy the peaceful surroundings before dinner at 7:00 PM. Overnight: Nyungwe Forest Area.
Day 3: Waterfalls & Return to Kigali
Begin your final day of the 3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trek & Canopy Walkway Adventure with breakfast at your lodge at 7:30 AM, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of Nyungwe Forest before checking out. At 8:30 AM, you may choose an optional morning nature experience, such as hiking to the beautiful Isumo Waterfall, exploring Nyungwe’s birdwatching trails or enjoying a relaxing forest photography walk surrounded by lush vegetation and the sounds of the rainforest. These optional activities offer one last opportunity to appreciate the remarkable biodiversity and natural beauty of Nyungwe National Park.
At approximately 11:00 AM, check out and begin your scenic drive back to Kigali, passing through Rwanda’s picturesque countryside, green hills, tea plantations and local communities. Enjoy a relaxing lunch stop along the way at around 1:30 PM before continuing your journey to the capital.
Arrive in Kigali at approximately 5:30 PM, where your Rwanda Treasure Tours guide will drop you off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport, marking the end of your memorable three-day Rwanda adventure combining chimpanzee trekking, the spectacular canopy walkway, rainforest exploration and cultural landscapes.
